After months of speculation we get another new wrinkle in the never-ending story that is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract situation.
Just a few days ago there were new rumors of the Gabon international potentially leaving in January only for them to get shut down quickly and new ones to spread about him possibly staying even longer in Dortmund. Well it seems that is now a real possibility.
Michael Zorc was a guest on Sky Germany’s football talk show and corrected the host when he mentioned Auba’s contract would end in 2020, Zorc immediately stated that the contract ends in 2021. This led to a slew of reports from kicker, Ruhr Nachrichten and WAZ, all saying essentially the same thing: Aubameyang has extended his contract until 2021, probably got a significant pay raise and Borussia Dortmund chose to not make an official statement.
The question remains why exactly Dortmund would choose not to make an official statement about this rather positive turn of events.
