  • Nuri Sahin retirement

Nuri Sahin has retired from international football, the 29-year-old played in 52 goals for Turkey (2 goals). The midfielder released a statement in Turkish and German on his official twitter account announcing his decision.

In the statement he thanks all the fans, players and officials that helped him on his way and cites his motives for the sudden move, he wants to give younger players a chance to build something with the Turkish team instead of blocking a spot for a younger player. Turkey missed the qualification for the World Cup in Russia next year and will have to rebuild in order to compete for the European championship in 2020 and the next World Cup in 2022.
