Thankfully Dortmund returned to their winning ways with a victory over 1.FC Magdeburg. Considering Isak played well and scored his first goal for Dortmund, plus the comebacks of Raphael Guerreiro and André Schürrle you could say it was a pretty good day for Dortmund.

As for the rest the results were pretty much devoid of any real surprises.

All Bundesliga teams advanced to the next round, although Mainz needed extra time to get past Holstein Kiel. SC Paderborn (3.Bundesliga) vs VfL Bochum (2.Bundesliga) was the only game that saw a lower tier team beat a club from a higher league.

Today’s matchups will probably be a bit more interesting considering several games include two teams from the Bundesliga, including Hertha BSC vs Köln, Bremen vs Hoffenheim and Leipzig vs Bayern.

For Dortmund, they now look forward to another big game this weekend in the league. Hannover 96 are enjoying their first season back in the top flight. They sit in 6th place, but BVB will still be expected to beat them. To maintain their hold on the top of the table, they’ll have to.
