Match Recap: Terrible first half and incorrect penalty call sink BVB’s 41 home game unbeaten streak.

Not much to say that isn’t reactionary here. The last time Borussia Dortmund lost a home game Jurgen Klopp was manager. 41 games we when unbeaten at home. All streaks end and this streak should be celebrated. However this game does feel like we blew it. Bosz chose a lineup that was terrible with no midfield presence. Gotze, Sahin and Castro leaves almost no ability to control the game through the midfield. Also our full backs are in disarray as Toljan and Zagadou looked awful. Injuries are getting us again with the absence of Piz, Raph and captain Marcel. Really the failure of this game can’t be put on one thing. The ref screwed us with a wrongly awarded red and penalty but the lineup and our play was awful.

The first half started great for BVB then went quite bad. After some early BVB attacks Aubameyang scored in the 5th minute to out us up 1-0. Sabitzer then put in an easy header after losing Toljan for the tie game. Things looked even after that until Bruma embarrassed both Toljan and Burki to get the ball to Poulsen, who slotted it easily. The rest of the first half was quite uneventful with both teams having some good chances and RB picking up some yellow cards.

The second half was a wild ride. Less then 5 minutes into the half the ref incorrectly called a pen on Sokratis and ejected him from the game. Augustin scored RBs 3rd and final goal and the game looked over after that. However things got heated up when a red card was pulled on Illsanker who needlessly got himself two yellows in two minutes. Shortly after pen was called for Aubameyang who scored the final goal of the game to make it 3-2. BVB looked dominant for the rest of the game and had a lot of chances that usually go in for the black and yellows but today was just not our day.

It’s very easy to make hot takes about this game. Bosz has yet to beat a good team as manager of BVB, this is true. But we are also beset by injury problems. Also one of those chances going in at the end of the game changes the whole story and feel of the match.
