The Bundesliga season is only halfway complete, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s historic season is already earning him accolades.
Kicker had 238 Bundesliga players vote for their “MVP” of the Hinrunde, and Aubameyang took first place. PEA has scored 16 goals in the league this season, 3 more than second-place finisher Robert Lewandowski.

Auba recently missed out on the CAF African Player of the Year award to Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez, but his amazing season is still turning heads around the world.
Dortmund’s Gabon international is on pace to surpass his mark of 25 goals scored in the league last year. In his three seasons with BVB, Auba has yet to lead the league in scoring. With a bit of an advantage over Lewandowski at the winter break, this could finally be Auba’s year.
PEA does have the disadvantage of having to miss some time for the upcoming African Cup of Nations. He’ll at least miss BVB’s match with Werder Bremen, and might not be back and ready to join up with the squad until February.
But with the form he’s shown so far this campaign, don’t be surprised if Auba comes back from AFCON hungry to make up for lost time. Clearly, Dortmund will need him to continue to be at his absolute best for the second half of this season.
