Transfer Rumor: Dortmund linked with Dutch Defender for Backline Depth

Borussia Dortmund solved one problem during this transfer window, adding depth at striker with youngster Alexander Isak to replace Adrian Ramos. But one more issue still remains: depth on defense.

With Neven Subotic loaned off to FC Koln, Dortmund remain bare at the back and hold little hope for a title victory with the current group of battered backs.

But alas, the window remains open for a few more days and Dortmund are back at it again, looking for another new name to bring into the Wesfalenstadion. On defense in yellow and black, rumors circulating show that Stefan de Vrij could be the next new member of BVB.

Stefan de Vrij has had stints with Feyenoord in the Eredivisie and SS Lazio in the Italian Serie A. The 24-year-old Dutch center-back has made 203 top-flight appearances since 2009, scoring nine times. In 30 senior caps for the Netherlands, de Vrij has scored three times, including once at the 2014 World Cup.

Italian media outlet Roma Repubblica has reported that Serie A powerhous Juventus is (shockingly) interested in poaching de Vrij from Lazio. However, Juve will need to stave off interest from other big clubs in Europe, highlighted by Dortmund, Paris-Saint Germain, and Manchester United.

Whether or not BVB would be able to match offers from other big clubs remains to be seen, but defensive reinforcements are a must for Dortmund heading into the second half of the season.
