It wasn’t an enjoyable campaign for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Gabon at the African Cup of Nations. The hosts were bounced from the competition after they drew all three of their group stage matches.
Disappointing for Auba, but not necessarily for Dortmund. Now the Bundesliga’s leading scorer is free to come back to his club.
Today, PEA posted on Instagram announcing his return back to BVB. It appears as if he’ll be available for selection when Dortmund travel to Mainz on Sunday. Obviously, that’s great news.
My first impression is that that’s a pretty nice plane. My second impression is that Auba looks relieved to finally be heading back to Dortmund.
It seems like there is a lot of pressure put on him when he’s with his national side. He is far and away their best player, and a tournament failure like this will certainly weigh on him.
But now our #17 can get back to the Westfalenstadion, and can get back to building on his 16 league goals scored this campaign.
