The end of the transfer period on Wednesday has resulted in a flurry of activity in the rumor mill. The latest: Liverpool put in an offer to buy Christian Pulisic for €12 Million. But have no fear because Kicker is reporting that Dortmund has soundly rejected that bid.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about English teams trying to buy Pulisic. A few days ago, Stoke City were reported to have made a €20 million offer for the talented American. Although that rumor had a lot of steam (with a report in Bild and plenty of tweets) it’s pretty much fizzled out, with Stoke even saying that they made no such bid. So this latest Liverpool rumor, while not totally unsubstantiated, doesn’t seem to hold much truth. Especially for the paltry sum of €12 Million. Really?
Of course, everyone who follows BVB is nervous because Pulisic is probably one of the most talented offensive players to come through the youth setup since the fallen wünderkid, Mario Götze. And comments a few weeks ago by Dortmund’s Sport Director Michael Zorc that “different players have had different inquiries” haven’t really helped calm any nerves. But as others have pointed out, a move for Pulisic away from the Westfalenstadion just doesn’t make real logical sense. The biggest reasons being, he’s 17 years old, he only had his breakthrough at the beginning of the year, and Dortmund is an incredible team that many players, and admittedly this writer, can only dream of joining.
It’ll be interesting, and uneasy, to see what else is reported in the next two days before the transfer deadline.
All I can say is, Pulisic, if you’re reading this: stay at BVB and hone your craft.
