With the 2016/17 season kicking off not just for our main team, but also for our youth teams, we present a three-part all-you-need-to-know summary about the youth teams.

Part 1 of 3 will provide a quick summary off what happened last season. Part 2 of 3 will cover the summer transfers. Part 3 of 3 will tell you what to expect this season.

Borussia Dortmund II

League: Regionalliga West (4th tier)

Position: Fourth

Top Scorers:

  • Marvin Ducksch (15 goals)
  • Michael Eberwein (14 goals)
  • Tammo Harder (6 goals)

Top Assisters:

  • Marvin Ducksch (12 goals)
  • Tammo Harder (9 goals)
  • Marco Hober (7 goals)

BVB II spent the first fifteen matches stuck in the relegation zone. The 1-0 loss to TuS Erndtebrück was the final nail in the coffin for former manager David Wagner's BVB II career.

Then new manager Daniel Farke immediately turned things around. 13 wins, 6 draws and 3 losses bought BvB II from 15th place to an astounding 4th place. Part of the credit for this goes to Marvin Ducksch sudden burst in form after recovering from his foot injury, and finally finding a position that worked for him (center forward). Ducksch had 12 goals and 9 assists in his last 15 matches. Unfortunately for BVB II, the 22 year old is on his way to St Pauli now.

17 year old Niklas Beste was the player of the season - a left-back, who managed 4 goals (!) and 17 assists (!) in 28 appearances.
