On the third day of the Euros we finally saw the first Dortmund player join the action.
Emre Mor, the 18-year-old Turkish prodigy, will join the black and yellows after he signed a five-year contract with Borussia Dortmund. Up until now he played in the Alka Superligaen, which is the highest league in Denmark, for FC Nordsjaelland.
Today was the first real opportunity to see him on a big international stage when he played in the Turkey-Croatia game. Mor came on for Cenk Tosun in the 70th minute after starting the game on the bench. The 24 minutes of playing time were enough to see why Zorc went after the young player. Mor had a few good scenes highlighting his strengths, like his immense speed and incredible technique. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to change the final score-line which saw Croatia take away a narrow 1-0 win on the back of Luka Modric’s beautiful volley-goal in the 42nd minute.
The highlight of Mor’s first appearance in a big tournament was a nifty back-heel pass that connected with one of his teammates. It showcased not only his immense technical abilities, but also that he has the necessary confidence to execute such plays when needed.
Hopefully we’ll see more of that next season, I for one am looking forward to his next games.
