Dortmund Pursuing Josip Brekalo for the Summer

Youth is clearly a priority in Dortmund.

During the January window, Borussia Dortmund were linked to two Serbian starlets Andrija Zivkovic and Luka Jovic, both under 20 years old. Just last month, there were various rumors about Dortmund looking to add players like Roma's Umar Sadiq, Bologna's Amadou Diawara and Godfred Donsah, and Universidad Catolica's (Chile) Jeisson Vargas.

Even at the end of this winter's transfer window, Dortmund snatched up Spanish youngster Mikel Merino from Osasuna. The 19-year-old was tracked hard by Dortmund throughout the window, and a deal was finally reached in February for Merino to come to Germany in the summer.

With talented young players like Felix Passlack, Christian Pulisic, and Julian Weigl all in consideration for first team appearances, it's clear that Dortmund is more focused on bolstering it's youth system in order to get stronger.

Now, another young player is receiving attention from Dortmund. Croatian youth star Josip Brekalo is being monitored by Borussia Dortmund and could be heading to Germany at the end of the season.

Brekalo was a key performer for Croatia at the U-17 World Cup last fall. The forward scored once, added an assist, and attempted 16 shots during his team's five matches. He has also played six matches for Dinamo Zagreb this season and has yet to score.

Dortmund will reportedly join Arsenal in the race to lure Brekalo this summer. At the moment, this is only a rumor. However, given Dortmund's interest in youth talent, there is reason to believe that Dortmund will pursue a deal for Josip Brekalo this summer.
