Player Ratings: Dortmund vs. Schalke

Bit of a weaker lineup today and now title hopes are slim.

STARTING XI:

Shinji Kagawa - 9: Good to see Shinji get the starting nod. In a strange 3-4-3 formation, Kagawa was at left wing and was able to get forward into an attacking posture. His efforts were rewarded with a goal.

Adrian Ramos - 8: He did okay at forward. Could have gotten himself into a better position at times. Although, he had a couple of defensive highlights in this one.

Christian Pulisic - 9: If there was any argument about Pulisic cementing a starting job, let it be over. The 17-year-old is playing like a seasoned veteran, and it's hard to believe he hasn't scored yet. Let's hope Jurgen Klinnsman was watching this one.

Erik Durm - 6: Actually not a bad job defensively, had a couple mistimed tackles but was overall fine. But it's impossible to believe that someone can be as offensively inept as he is. Granted, he is not playing his natural position, but that needs to be dealt with immediately.

Moritz Leitner - 8: Despite his lack of play this season, Leitner did a good job getting forward and delivered some quality set pieces. He did well to set up Kagawa's goal.

Nuri Sahin - 7: Nothing spectacular from the Turk. It was an average performance. Some good moments, but nothing extraordinary.

Matthias Ginter - 9: Didn't no whether he was midfield or defense at times, but it honestly did not matter. He was able to get forward, scoring the second goal for BVB. Ginter also did well defensively.

Mats Hummels - 7: Confused as to why he was subbed off, let's hope it wasn't injury related. Otherwise he did fine on defense.

Sokratis - 7: Defensively good, but conceded a penalty that cost Dortmund three points. The Greek was a bit undisciplined but was the only defender on a makeshift backline in the second half.

Sven Bender - 6: He is clearly not a defender, so taking that into account, Bender had a fair performance today.

Roman Burki - 7: Could have done a little better on the first Schalke goal as his punch went straight to Leroy Sane.

SUBS:

Henrikh Mkhitaryan - 10: His job was to affect the game offensively and boy did he do that. He was the difference in the second half.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - 8: Couple of good chances, worked pretty well with Ramos up top.

Ilkay Gundogan - 8: Good off the bench. Could have made a few more runs forward, but drew some crucial fouls.
