With Spanish clubs Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid under transfer bans for the summer window, there is a major opportunity for FC Barcelona to draw in some of the best talent in the world.
With this opportunity comes risk for the rest of world's top clubs, as Barcelona will look to add multiple stars to their roster this summer. Five players near the top of Barcelona's watchlist are currently suiting up for Borussia Dortmund.
Julian Weigl, Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan, Marco Reus, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have all captured the interest of FC Barcelona, and if the price is right, could be headed to Catalunia in summer.
So why would Barcelona want five of Dortmund's best players?
Well, it should be said that, aside from Gundogan, the chance that the other four players switch to La Liga is rather unlikely.
At 20 years old, Julian Weigl has been one of the biggest surprises of the Bundesliga season. The youngster has become a mainstay at central midfield and is already making a name for himself. Weigl is signed until June of 2019, so will likely be staying in Dortmund until then.
If Weigl were to move to Barcelona, he would be competing with the likes of Andres Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic, and Sergio Busquets for a starting job at midfield.
Mats Hummels has also been linked with a possible move to Barcelona. The centre back is under contract until 2017, but has yet to come to terms on a contract extension with the club. If he were to make the switch to Barcelona, he may likely steal the starting job from Javier Mascherano.
Marco Reus has long been linked with moves away from Signal Iduna Park, but remains under contract with Dortmund until 2019. As a left winger, Reus would be competing with Neymar for a starting job.
A move would likely mean a huge fee for the Dortmund star, and with the money in Barcelona's pockets, BVB could get the cash they need to sign another big star. However, Reus is set to be staying in Dortmund for the time being.
The big name hitting the transfer market on Dortmund's roster is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon international has scored goals at a blistering pace this season, and his speed and agility makes him a highly-valued striker.
Signed until 2020, Aubameyang doesn't look to be going anywhere anytime soon. Barcelona have a trio of world class strikers who Aubameyang wouldn't dethrone from starting positions. Despite BVB being open to all offers from potential suitors, Auba will likely be staying in Dortmund.
Ilkay Gundogan seems the most likely to be leaving Dortmund this summer, with Barcelona one of the potential destinations. Although links to Manchester City have also been declared, Barcelona could win the race to secure Gundogan.
Likely competing with Rakitic for a starting role, Gundogan will attract a hefty sum from the Spanish giants. He has been in a lengthy contract dispute with Dortmund, and although his contract expires next season, it is likely that Gundogan will be leaving this summer.
Whether all, some, or none of the above five players go to Barcelona, it wouldn't be the first time a club has lured a number of stars from a club at the same time. Most recently, Liverpool took all of Southampton's talent only a couple years ago, and the same situation has unfolded in years past.
