Dortmund traveled to Stuttgart today to face the in-form Swabians, and came away with an all important win. Reus opened the scoring early, but then Stuttgart equalized off a deflection. Aubameyang put us ahead once again in the 31st minute, and Dortmund were able to hold the lead till they finally sealed the deal late in the game through a two-on-zero counterattack. Here's our player ratings:
Burki 6: There wasn't much that Burki could do on Stuttgart's goal, and he wasn't worked very much throughout the match. Besides a few free headers that were right at him, he didn't make any notable saves.
Piszczek 6: Another solid game from the Pole, who continues to justify Tuchel's decision in making him the starting right back.
Sokratis 6: Made a lot of good, hard tackles, just like we're used to seeing. The defense as a whole allowed a few headers, and had trouble clearing the ball at times.
Hummels 7: Another good game from Mats, who really effectively can play the ball out from the back.
Schmelzer 6: Solid game, helped to have Durm on the left wing for extra defensive cover.
Ginter 6: A much better game in defensive midfield. He can grow into the role as he gets more playing time there, looked a lot more comfortable today.
Gundogan 8: A masterclass performance today, made some really good runs and passes. Unlucky to not have picked up a goal or an assist. He's probably our most important player, and we should do everything we can to hold onto him.
Mkhitaryan 7: Another really good game from Henrikh, he worked really hard all game and deserved the goal he got. Played as a hybrid 10/8, along with Gundogan. Another player who we really need to hold on to.
Durm 7: Surprisingly an effective game for Durm. I was surprised to see him play as an attacker, but I think he impressed everyone today and has earned himself another chance on the wing. Good choice by Tuchel.
Reus 8: Marco was involved in two of our goals today, hopefully coming into form and stay fit so he can get back to elite status. Mr. 1-0 keeps earning his nickname, a trend that everyone would love to see continue.
Aubameyang 7: Another game, another goal for our world class striker. He took his goal brilliantly, using two touches to get it onto his left foot and finishing it superbly outside of the box. His speed allowed us to score the third, breaking away from the Stuttgart defense entirely.
SUBS
Leitner and Kagawa both came on too late to have much of an impact. Leitner played a little over ten minutes, and Kagawa only was on for a couple minutes.
