Results have been mixed this season, but there is no question that Thomas Tuchel is one of the brightest young managers in all of Europe. And Marc Bartra certainly agrees.
Bartra recently gave an interview with Spanish outlet Diario Sport where he spoke about Tuchel and life at Dortmund. The Spanish defender had high praise for Tuchel, whom he thinks is similar to Barcelona’s typical style of manager.
“I don't know what will happen in the future, but he has the profile (to coach at Barca)”
"Training has a style similar to sessions at Barca, with similar drills."
"That's helped me to adapt quickly, as well as the confidence he's shown in me, which is neither more nor less than I deserve. It's what every player wants, that you're given the confidence you really deserve, not more, not less.”
"Above all, I've adapted well because the level of play and style is so similar to what I've been used to with Barca and Spain for so many years.”
Tuchel is often touted as one of Europe’s up-and-coming managers, so there is a worry that he sees himself eventually coaching at a club larger than Dortmund. But for now, there isn’t any worry of him leaving. He’s still very much got his work cut out for him at BVB.
It is interesting to hear Bartra speak about the similarities between Dortmund and Barca. The playing style is definitely similar, so it makes sense that Tuchel’s methods of training and coaching would be too.
Bartra’s results in Germany have also been mixed so far, but it is good to hear that he is happy and settling in well at BVB.
Tuchel and Bartra are very much the embodiment of the promising youthful team that is being developed at Dortmund. Even if it means our inexperience will keep us from contending for the title this year, the future is certainly bright.
