Quick Picks: Bundesliga Matchday 8

Two newly-promoted teams in position to win this weekend?

Last Week’s Record: 3-6

TEAM OF THE WEEK: Werder Bremen

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Anthony Modeste (FCK)

Hamburger SV vs. Eintracht Frankfurt - 1-1 draw

Eintracht proved it could play with the big boys following a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich. Hamburg also showed its superior defending abilities by drawing Gladbach, 0-0. Though Eintracht has been a pleasant surprise this season, winning at Hamburg seems unlikely so we could see a draw.

Bayer Leverkusen vs. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim - Leverkusen 3-0

Ok, who could’ve seen Leverkusen losing to Werder Bremen last week, seriously? But a misstep like that won’t happen twice in as many games. Look for a big response from Leverkusen this weekend with Chicharito leading the way.

Hertha BSC Berlin vs. 1. FC Koln - Berlin 1-0

Berlin has proven they are extremely tough to play against and will be tested yet again this week by FC Koln. If Berlin can withstand the high-powered, fast-paced Dortmund offense on the road, then they should be able to best Koln at home in what will be the game of the weekend.

Darmstadt 98 vs. VfL Wolfsburg - Wolfsburg 3-1

The Wolfs couldn’t string it together against RB Leipzig last week, but a trip to Darmstadt has all the makings of a successful rebound. The offense is desperately seeking a jump-start and it feels like this could be as good a time as ever.

SC Freiburg vs. FC Augsburg - 2-1 Freiburg

Augsburg fought hard to earn a draw last weekend against Schalke while Freiburg was frustratingly defeated in a game it fully expected and deserved to win. Look for Freiburg to come out flying and overwhelm Augsburg through the early stages of the match.

FC Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Monchengladbach - Munich 2-0

Munich endured a disappointing result last weekend while Gladbach’s offense was stifled by Hamburg. With Neuer between the sticks, Munich should be able to slide two goals past Gladbach in a rebounding win.

RB Leipzig vs. Werder Bremen - Leipzig 4-1

Betting against Leipzig last weekend got me nowhere so with Bremen coming into Red Bull Arena this weekend, it should be a relatively easy, routine victory for the Bundesliga debutants.

FC Schalke 04 vs. 1. FSV Mainz 05 - Mainz 2-1

Schalke are truly on edge at this point in the season sitting in 16th place. Mainz, meanwhile is looking like a real contender in the making and a win could potentially lift them into fourth place this weekend. A late goal will provide the difference in this one.

FC Ingolstadt vs. Borussia Dortmund - Dortmund 3-1

After two tough Bundesliga games without a win, Dortmund should be able to get three points this week. Although Ingolstadt shouldn't be dismissed and Tuchel still has to work around the injury-crisis that has hit the roster, a win is still expected from the black and yellows.
