Young starlet and newly found Ronaldo 2.0 Julian Weigl came through with a scintillating performance against Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday. He bossed the midfield through the entire match, driving play and distributing the ball with ease. He capped it off with a magnificent golazo that turned out to be the match winning goal.

After humiliating William Carvalho and Elias Mendes Trindade, he struck a beautiful swerving strike that fount the left hand corner. It was such a magnificent strike, you’d hardly know that this was Julian Weigl’s first goal in senior football.

When asked about how he did it, Julian didn’t even seem to know where that goal came from. “I am not really sure what I did for the goal. I am ecstatic that I finally found the back of the net,” he said in a post match interview.

Thomas Tuchel also poked some fun at Weigl, saying, “I only remember one other goal [from Julian]. It happened in the last training match before the PAOK Match,” referring to a Europa League tie last year.

Julian Weigl’s performance was masterful on Tuesday, which has led to many reports across Europe that he is due for a massive wage hike, from €20,000 to €60,000 a week. Such a signing would be a renewed sign of faith from BVB, and could potentially help to ward off transfer bids from Manchester City or Real Madrid.

Julian Weigl is incredibly important to this club. No matter who is in our midfield, or what formation they take, the one common theme is always Julian Weigl as a holding CDM. He has been distributor in chief for over a year, and now he can add “dynamic goal scorer” to his list of specialties.
