It feels eerily like Klopp’s last season at BVB. We’re getting beat by deep sitting teams in the Bundesliga but my oh my these glorious European nights! The first half against Sporting has been case in point.
BVB started the game sharp and crisp and haven’t let up at all. Aubameyang in particular has looked like a man trying to make up for lost goals against Hertha at the weekend. The Gabonese got the scoring started in the 9th minute after some deft work by Mario Gotze. A clever first touch and typically blazing pace took Batman past the shoulder of the last defender, finishing with what is becoming a signature chip shot.
If not for a few great saves from Rui Patricio in the Sporting goal Aubameyang could easily have 2 or 3 more goals of Gotze and Dembele crosses.
The home side eventually started to feel their way into the game and created a few good chances for Bas Dost.
Oh what a finish to the half though for BVB! Oh what a finish from.....Weigl!? The Germany international scored his first Champions League goal and it was definitely worth the wait.
Now that Weigl is taking long shots it’s only a matter of time before Old Trafford decide they should smash the transfer record again for a scoring metronome. Jokes aside let’s hope the boys in black and yellow can continue their scintillating play in the second half!
