Quick Picks: Bundesliga Matchday 7

Surprises and Blowouts in store for this weekend?

FC Koln vs. FC Ingolstadt - Koln 4-0

Anthony Modeste is about to go off this weekend. Three goals from the Koln striker will pace the Billy Goats, as will a solid performance from Timo Horn in goal.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Hamburger SV - Gladbach 2-0

Hamburg’s defense has been decent but the offense has gone missing. It’s surprising we haven’t seen the HSV offense on the side of a milk carton after their dormancy over the first six weeks. Regardless, Gladbach should have no problem. Thorgan Hazard will be the difference maker.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Bayern Munich - Munich 5-0

Won’t be quite as ugly as Bayern’s opening day victory, but the Frankfurt defense would be better off just staying in the dressing room...as would the whole team really. Not much hope for them against the Bavarian giants. (Hopefully I’m wrong, though.)

FC Augsburg vs. FC Schalke - 1-1 draw

Schalke’s winless run ended at its last match with a victory over BMG. But with a trip to Augsburg on the horizon, Schalke’s win streak may be short-lived. With Augsburg win over Darmstadt in its last win at home, the Swabians will give Schalke a fight as both sides will stalemate in this one.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim vs. SC Freiburg - Freiburg 2-1

Hoffenheim has looked rather okay this season, sitting in seventh place with 10 points. Freiburg? Shockingly enough not far behind them with nine points. A pretty even matchup will be settled by Freiburg’s stalwart defense and a pair of strikes by Maximilian Philipp.

Werder Bremen vs. Bayer Leverkusen - Leverkusen 3-1

The most shocking thing about this scoreline is Bremen getting on the board. Bremen has been good against Leverkusen traditionally, but Bremen’s defense has been woeful this season. With Chicharito likely to desecrate the Bremen backline, this one should be decisive in favor of Leverkusen - although the scoreline won’t indicate it.

FSV Mainz 05 vs. Darmstadt 98 - Mainz 2-2

Goals, goals, and more goals. Both these teams have struggled defensively, Darmstadt has failed to put it together on both sides of the ball. This one might get a bit feisty in the early goings leading to a couple of cheap goals either way. But just like when these sides met at Mainz last season, it should end honors even.

VfL Wolfsburg vs. RB Leipzig - Wolfsburg 2-1

How is Leipzig still unbeaten? Seriously, this team has more than proven it belongs in the top flight. But at Wolfsburg, we will see how Leipzig will respond to adversity. Both teams will trade goals, likely in quick succession. But Mario Gomez will break his goal-scoring duct with a late winner for the home side.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Hertha BSC Berlin - Dortmund 3-1

BVB has struggled to be consistent this season, losing twice in six games already. But that will all end for Dortmund as they face Berlin at home this weekend. Look for Ousmane Dembele to play a big role, whether as a sub or a starter on Friday. Marc Bartra will return to the backline to spark a Dortmund resurgence.
